Joe Kennedy III Announces Run To Succeed Rep. Barney Frank

Joseph Kennedy III announced Thursday that he is running for the Massachusetts House seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass.

The 31-year-old former Assistant District Attorney and Peace Corps Volunteer, grandson of Robert F. Kennedy and son of former Rep. Joseph Kennedy II, released a video to kick off his campaign.

Kennedy explained in the video, "I believe this country was founded on a simple idea: that every person deserves to be treated fairly, by each other and by their government. But that's not happening in America anymore."

He added that he planned to fight for "a fair jobs plan," a better educational system, "a fair tax code" and "fair housing policy." and.

Kennedy lauded the efforts of Congressman Frank, saying, "[He] has done so much for Massachusetts and America during his service in Congress and he leaves very big shoes to fill."

Kennedy finished his speech by noting, "My family has had the great privilege of serving Massachusetts before. They taught me that public service is an honor, given in trust and that trust must be earned every day. And that's exactly what I intend to do."
