Biotechnology company BioTime Inc (BTX) Thursday provided a progress report on PanC-Dx, a novel diagnostic device developed to detect the presence of various human cancers, in association with its subsidiary unit, OncoCyte Corporation.
BioTime stated that the company, along with its subsidiary OncoCyte, has successfully completed the evaluation of 50 potential cancer biomarkers using antibody-based ELISA technology in blood serum samples.
The company stated that it has selected 7 newly discovered serum markers, which were demonstrated to be significantly elevated in cancer patients as compared to healthy controls;
BioTime added that it has completed all the experiments characterizing one of the seven priority cancer biomarkers discovered using OncoCyte's proprietary cancer microarray dataset.
BioTime further added that OncoCyte intends to launch PanC-Dx in Europe in 2014, before seeking the required approval by the Food and Drug Administration to market PanC-Dx in the United States
