TSX Down At Open Thursday

Bay Street stocks opened lower Thursday amid marginal selling across a variety of sectors, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index shedding 20.22 points or 0.17 percent to 12,090.84.

Potash Corp. (POT.TO) lost close to 4 percent after reporting a sharp fall in its first quarter net income.

In the oil patch, Suncor Energy (SU.TO), Crescent Point Energy (CPG.TO) and Niko Resources (NKO.TO) were down around 1 percent each.

Meanwhile, MEG Energy (MEG.TO) rose close to 3 percent

Among gold plays, Goldcorp. (G.TO) lost close to 4 percent, while Royal Gold (RGL.TO) and Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM.TO) were adding over 1 percent each

In the base-metal space, Lundin Mining (LUN.TO) gathered over 2 percent despite reporting a lower first quarter net income. Teck Resources (TCK_B.TO) was up over 1 percent.

TransGlobe Apartment Real Estate Investment Trust (TGA_UN.TO) soared over 15 percent to C$14.30 after it said it would be acquired by PD Kanco LP and Starlight Investments Ltd. for $14.25 per unit.
