Indonesia's merchandise exports increased more than economists expected in March, data released by the Central Statistics Agency showed Tuesday.
Export of goods increased 5.51 percent on an annual basis to $17.27 billion in March. Economists were looking for a 3.8 percent growth. Compared to February, the value of shipments climbed 10.01 percent during the month. Shipments of non-oil products advanced 3.46 percent annually.
In the January-March period, total exports increased 6.93 percent from the corresponding period a year earlier. There was a 3.87 percent annual gain dispatches of non-oil products during the period.
At the same time, the value of imports advanced 13.4 percent annually to $16.43 billion. Economists expected imports to gain 13.1 percent year-on-year. Compared to February, total arrivals rose 10.49 percent during the month.
In the January-March period, imports advanced 18.18 percent from the corresponding period a year earlier, the agency said.
