Indonesia Manufacturing Sector Expands Marginally In April

Manufacturing activity in Indonesia expanded only marginally in April, while the rate of growth eased to a three -month low, a survey by Markit Economics showed Wednesday.

The newly launched HSBC/Markit purchasing managers' index for Indonesia's factory sector scored 50.5 in April, down from 50.8 in March. Index readings above 50.0 signal expansion from the previous month, readings below 50.0 indicate contraction.

Manufacturers in Indonesia signaled a stagnation in output during April. This reflected a slowdown in new order growth. There were also signs of weakness in the export orders amid falling foreign demand, Markit said.

Employment in the Indonesian manufacturing sector returned to growth during the latest month, following a fall in March. The survey also revealed that input price inflation reached the highest level in 12 months in April.
