"I'm for Mitt Romney," former President George W. Bush said Tuesday after a speech in the nation's capital. The statement, a casual endorsement of the GOP presumptive presidential nominee, was made after a rare public appearance by the president who many still blame for the nation's economic problems.
The Bush event featured a conversation with Aung San Suu Kyi and a rare speech by the 43rd president on the issue of human freedom.
Romney had already acquired the endorsement of 41st President George H.W. Bush, former First Lady Barbara Bush and George W.'s brother, former Florida governor Jeb Bush.
Meanwhile, GOP presidential hopeful Ron Paul, who stated he would not campaign in any further primaries, focusing instead on the August convention, said his endorsement of Romney was "unlikely."
"Dr. Paul is willing to listen and willing to have conversations and willing to enter anything with an open mind...It sure would help Mitt Romney to earn Dr. Paul's endorsement," Ron Paul national campaign chairman Jesse Benton said during a conference call Tuesday, adding it was premature to discuss the issue as Paul would be continuing onto the GOP convention.
Speaking in Washington after a George W. Bush Presidential Center's Human Freedom Initiative event in Washington, DC, Bush told ABC he was for the former Massachusetts governor.
