The FDA's Blood Products Advisory Committee (BPAC) has given it's approval to OraSure Technologies, Inc's new over-the-counter HIV test OraQuick In-Home. The firm broke news of the endorsement in a press release on May 15.
The new product will offer public consumers with a version of OraSure's professionally available OraQuick Advance rapid HIV test. The new test can detect antibodies of the HIV 1 and 2 virus within 20 minutes.
"We are pleased with the outcome of today's Blood Products Advisory Committee meeting," said Douglas A. Michels, President and Chief Executive Officer of OraSure Technologies.
"There was broad support expressed by the HIV community at today's meeting and we look forward to continuing our work with them in the fight against HIV. We believe the OraQuick® In-Home HIV Test will make a valuable contribution in this fight."
