Obama for America released a three-minute web video Thursday that countered a new ad from Karl Rove's independent group Crossroads GPS.
Obama's deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter used the video to attack the Crossroads ad's claims that the president broke his promises on reducing the deficit, cutting taxes for Middle Class Americans, helping people who have faced foreclosure and health care coverage.
"Karl Rove's group Crossroads is spending $25 million from secret donors to tear down the president in a new ad," Cutter said to start the video. "Time to tear this thing apart."
In a point-by-point breakdown, Cutter defended Obama's record by saying the president has helped nearly 6 million homeowners with their mortgages, enacted $1 trillion in spending cuts to help reduce the deficit, kept Middle Class taxes low and enabled people to keep their health care plan if they want.
The Rove-backed group said it would spend $8 million to show the ad in ten battleground states. Crossroads GPS is a policy and grassroots advocacy organization and sister organization to American Crossroads that became active in 2010.
Its founders include Rove and former Republican National Committee chairmen Mike Duncan and Ed Gillespie.
"So another special interest attack ad, another set of outright distortions and another time when I need to ask you to do what you do best: get the president's back," Cutter said. "Karl Rove is relying on you to do nothing to call out his B.S., and I know you'll prove him wrong."
