More than a third of the nation's prescriptions are now delivered electronically, a new report indicates.
The report by Surescripts, the largest network for paperless prescribing, stated more and more doctors are signing up for e-prescription services for the ease of use for the doctor, pharmacy and patient.
Surescripts reported at the end of 2011, 36 percent of all prescriptions were electronic, up 14 percent from 2010.
Surescripts added when a prescription is e-filed, it is 10 percent more likely to get picked up by the patient. Pharmacy's have more incentive to follow up with the patient to pick up the prescription which has lead to the 10 percent boost in filling rate.
