A delegation led by President Abdullah Gül will represent Turkey at the NATO Summit opening in Chicago on Sunday.
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz will also travel to the U.S. city to attend the Summit which will mainly focus on issues such as new defense packages that follow the principle of "Smart Defense" concerning defense needs at a time of strict budgetary constraints.
The summit will also focus on the Deterrence and Defense Posture Review (DDPR) and stability in Afghanistan, the Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement in Ankara on Friday.
Leaders of countries participating in NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan and representatives of related institutions will meet to exchange views on establishing stability and security in that country, the statement added.
Foreign and Defense Ministers of the Alliance's member-countries are also scheduled to hold separate meetings on the sidelines of the Summit, Turkish media reported quoting the statement.
