Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd., or JSIL, has partnered with G8 and various nations to invest in Africa on the occasion of "The New Alliance For Food Security in Africa" symposium held on March 18 at Washington DC.
Prior to the even, Ms. Hilary Clinton hosted the G8 partner organizations and country heads at State House, where African Union President Jean Ping, Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete and Ghana's President Atta Mills were also present.
JSIL has committed investment and projects of $375 million over the next few years to build sustainable agriculture and to improve income of small holder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa. In the coming years, JSIL will partner and collaborate with the governments of Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Ghana, Cote d'lvoire, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and others.
Earlier in the day, President Barack Obama addressed the audience and exhorted them to create hunger free and prosperous Africa through improved agriculture.
Managing Director Anil Jain emphasized that usage of drip irrigation technology, the concept of 'More Crop per Drop' as well as knowledge transfer of the best agricultural practices to small holder African farmers would result in significant improvement in their prosperity. The cluster development model might help African nations to quickly increase their agricultural output.
He added that enhanced income of small holder farmer shall always remain the priority while Africa plans to feed itself and become net exporter of food to the rest of the world. He expressed his intentions to participate in the entire agri business value chain by using JISL's unique business model which is entirely focused on small holder farmers.
Jain led a high level company delegation comprising of D.N. Kulkarni, President Sustainability-India and Sanjay Sethi, Senior Vice President-Africa.
Jain thanked the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Raj Shah, administrator of USAID and leaders of various African Nations for providing this opportunity of partnership for betterment of agriculture in Africa.
At the BSE, Jain Irrigation shares are currently trading at Rs.76.50, up 0.79 percent from the previous close.
