Finland's unemployment rate increased from last year in April, and matched economists' forecast, data released by Statistics Finland showed Tuesday.
The unemployment rate increased to 8.4 percent in April from 8.2 percent in the same month last year. The latest figure matched economists' expectations. The unemployment rate among youth, aged between 15 and 24, was 23.5 percent in April, unchanged from the year before.
The number of jobless persons in the country rose to around 226,000 in April from about 220,000 a year earlier, the agency said.
At the same time, the employment rate moved up to 68.5 percent in April from 68.2 percent in April 2011. The number of employed persons advanced to around 2.47 million from about 2.46 million a year earlier. The number of employed increased in the private sector but fell in the public sector.
