Facebook says it will address a bug which resulted in the loss of e-mail contacts in the mobile address books of some users. The bug was a result of the social network's making its own addresses visible by default, in effect, hiding the original addresses. FB added that the problem "will be resolved soon."
In a statement, the company said that "for people on certain devices, a bug meant that the device was pulling the last email address added to the account rather than the primary address, resulting in @facebook.com addresses being pulled."
However, some have noted that it is another instance of Facebook tampering with user information in a move to "expand its virally-based marketing system":
"Facebook's game of email switcheroo should violate its 20-year consent decree with the FTC about its privacy policies," Jeffrey Chester, executive director of the Center for Digital Democracy (CDD), told TechNewsWorld.
