Japanese consumer sentiment deteriorated more than expected in July, a monthly survey carried out by the Cabinet Office revealed Thursday.
The corresponding index fell to 39.7 from 40.4 in July. The reading was forecast to ease to 40. All sub-components of the index weakened from the prior month level.
The overall livelihood index came in at 40.6, down from 41.3 a month ago. Income growth fell to 39.4 from 39.7 and the employment dropped to 36.8 from 38. Willingness to buy slipped slightly by 0.5 points to 42.
On an unadjusted basis, the consumer sentiment index showed a reading of 40.5 in July compared to 40.8 a month ago.
