Mobile Plans Coming Where You Can Pay Just For Email Or Facebook?

ItsOn, a California based startup, is developing technology that may allow mobile subscribers to fit their data plans to only the services that they use. That could mean a mobile plan which supports only e-mail or social networking services like Facebook.

The startup, founded by Greg Raleigh and Charles Giancarlo, who pioneered MIMO technology and helped create Qualcomm's Gobi product, have received $15 million in funding for their idea from Andreessen Horowitz and SV Angel.

ItsOn has built a cloud-based platform that supplements existing cell networks allowing operators to offer an array of flex services to be fit to particular customers. The flexibility could unlock more billing options which are currently unavailable.

The service could also affect the way companies purchase service for employees; for example, a firm might pay for work-related applications, while charging its employee for service used in relation to non-work-related applications.
