Emirates Flight Lands Back In Sydney Due To Engine Shut Down

An Emirates Airlines A380 Airbus was forced to turn back for an emergency landing at Sydney Airport shortly after taking off following engine shut down in flight.

The engine trouble was reported by captain of flight EK413 when it was climbing out of Sydney for Dubai on Sunday night at 10,000 feet, reports said.

The pilot contacted the ground crew, and declared PAN, a state of urgency, saying they needed to shut the no. 3 engine down. Upon receiving advice from the Air Traffic Controller, the crew returned to Sydney airport, dumped fuel and landed safely. Media reports said the flight returned within 20 minutes of take-off, while Aviation Herald, which monitors aviation incidents, said the flight landed in about 90 minutes after departure.

Panicked passengers were quoted as saying that they heard a loud bang on-board, and saw flames coming out of the engine shortly after take-off.

The UAE-based airlines said it apologized for any inconvenience to passengers, who were re-booked on alternative flights.
