Two U.S. military personnel stationed in Japan were arrested on Friday in separate cases, the latest in a series of incidents involving American soldiers.
While Sergeant Luis Fernandez, 27, of the U.S. Futenma Air Station was booked for drunk driving and rear-ending a vehicle at a stop light, Petty Officer 3rd Class Oscar Hayes Wiygul the Third, 23, a crew member on aircraft carrier George Washington berthed at the Yokosuka Naval Base was detained for stripping in public at a comic book cafe, Japan's NHK broadcaster reported.
A night curfew was in force for all U.S. military personnel stationed in Japan since the alleged sexual assault of a Japanese woman by two U.S. servicemen in Okinawa in October.
A staunch U.S. ally in the Asia-Pacific, Japan hosts a number of U.S. military bases with more than 50,000 soldiers, nearly half of them in Japan's southernmost Okinawa island.
