The Afghan police killed two Taliban militants and arrested 26 others in a series of operations across the country in the past 24 hours, reports said Tuesday.
The operations were conducted in Nangarhar, Kapisa, Kunduz, Maidan, Wardak, Logar, Ghazni and Helmand provinces. The police also are said to have suffered casualties.
Meanwhile, Pakistan released eight more Taliban members, in an effort to promote peace in Afghanistan.
Afghan and coalition security forces had confirmed on Monday the arrest of a top Taliban leader in Andar district during a security operation in Andar district, Ghazni province, last week.
