A car-bomb attack targeting Shia Muslim pilgrims on Thursday killed at least 20 people and injured many others south of Iraqi capital Baghdad.
The pilgrims were returning from the holy city of Karbala after attending the festival of Arbaeen, when the explosive device hidden in a car parked near a bus stop in the town of Musayyib exploded, reports said.
It was the second bomb explosion that killed Shia Muslims in Musayyib, 60 kilometers south of Baghdad, this week.
Over the past years, Sunni extremists have been taking advantage of the occasion of Arbaeen, when Shia Muslims gather in large numbers in the southern city of Karbala to mark the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, a grandson of Prophet Muhammad, to attack pilgrims of the rival community.
