Four teen-agers were found dead after their car was spotted in Forked Creek in Wilmington, Ill.
A school bus driver spotted the submerged car in the creek around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The kids had not been seen since Monday morning.
"We've been told by one of the residents that lives near this area that yesterday evening there was a lot of water, standing water over the roadway due to the melt-off of the rain and snow that we all had in the Chicagoland area this past week, and this may have perhaps contributed to this tragedy," said Ken Kaupus of the Will County Sheriff's Office, according to WLS-TV in Chicago. "There could have very well have been icing, as well as water on the roadway."
Authorities have not released the named of the victims, which included two boys and two girls age 14 to 17. Family members have named Micalah Sembach, 15, a freshman at Wilmington High School as one of the victims.
