White Youths Attack S. Korean National In Australia

In a suspected racial attack, a South Korean national living in Australia was severely beaten up by three white youths armed with steel pipes.

The 42-year-old man was assaulted at a restaurant near Strathfield Station in Sydney on March 12 and he suffered serious head injuries.

South Korean media reported on Friday that the youths approached the Korean, spit on him and beat the victim with steel pipes. One of the assailants shaved his head like a "skinhead."

A number of assault cases against South Korean nationals traveling or living in Australia last year prompted Seoul's Foreign Ministry to convene an emergency meeting in December last to discuss countermeasures.

The Australian government at that time had assured all efforts to track down those suspected of attacking South Korean nationals in that country and bring them to justice. There are more than 140,000 South Koreans in Australia, the report said.
