India's retail inflation based on the consumer price index eased in March, after increasing for five straight months, data released by the Central Statistics Office showed Friday.
The all India general CPI rose 10.39 percent year-on-year, following a 10.91 percent increase in February. In January, the figure was 10.79 percent. The latest figure is the lowest since November's 9.97 percent.
The biggest price growth of 17.55 percent was recorded for cereals, followed by a 14.36 percent increase in prices of eggs, fish and meat. Prices for oil and fats, pulses, vegetables, fruits, sugar, non-alcoholic drinks also recorded double-digit increases.
Prices of food and beverages rose 12.42 percent in total, while prices in the fuel and light group increased 8.31 percent. The clothing and footwear group registered 10.64 percent price increase.
