Japan Auto Production Declines Further

Japan's automobile production declined 16.4 percent year-on-year in March, bigger than the 15.1 percent fall seen in February, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association said Tuesday.

Domestic sales decreased 11.3 percent annually to 667,129 vehicles in March.

For the fiscal year ending March 2013, automobile production totaled 9.5 million. Compared with the same period of the previous year, production increased 3.1 percent, which was the third consecutive increase. At the same time, domestic sales advanced 9.6 percent.

In March, motorcycle production plunged 20 percent, while its domestic sales rose 1 percent from a year ago. For the fiscal year 2012, motorcycle production decreased 18.1 percent and it was down after three years of upturn.
