Czech Manufacturing Contraction Eases In April

Czech manufacturing activity deteriorated at a slower pace in April amid a slight improvement in production, a survey by Markit Economics and HSBC revealed Thursday.

The headline purchasing managers' index rose to 49.5 in April from 49.1 in March. Readings below 50 suggests contraction of the sector.

The headline index has now remained below the neutral threshold for the past 13 months.

New orders continued to decline in April. However, production rose marginally, marking the first increase since June last year.

Input prices faced by manufacturers fell at the strongest pace since July 2009, Markit said.
