Belgian Economy Rebounds Modestly In Q1

Belgium's economy recorded modest growth in the first quarter after staying broadly stagnant in the previous two quarters, preliminary data released by the National Bank of Belgium showed Friday.

Gross domestic product (GDP) edged up a seasonally adjusted 0.1 percent sequentially in the first quarter, after dropping by 0.1 percent in the fourth quarter. In the third quarter, the economy registered neither growth nor contraction.

The GDP decreased a calendar-adjusted 0.5 percent on an annual basis in the first quarter, after recording a similar fall in the fourth quarter. In the year 2012, economic activity had fallen by 0.3 percent, data showed.
