Cyprus April HICP Inflation Slows Sharply

Cyprus' EU harmonized inflation slowed sharply in April, data released by the statistical office showed Tuesday.

Inflation as per the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) slowed markedly to 0.1 percent in April from 1.3 percent in March. In February, the inflation rate was 1.8 percent.

Driving the slowdown, food and non-alcoholic beverages prices rose at a slower rate of 1.3 percent than 2.2 percent in March. Meanwhile, clothing and footwear prices decreased at a faster rate of 7.3 percent than 0.9 percent in March.

Housing costs and utility prices decreased 2 percent from a year earlier after rising 1 percent in the previous month, data showed. There was a 1.5 percent rise in transportation costs.
