Estonia GDP Contracts In Q1

Estonia's economy contracted in the first quarter of 2013 compared to previous three months, preliminary estimates from Statistics Estonia showed Monday.

The seasonally and working-day adjusted gross domestic product decreased 1 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2012.

On an annual basis, GDP rose 1 percent in the first quarter following 3.7 percent growth in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Growth in the value added of construction decelerated sharply in the first three months of the year. Economic growth was also negatively affected by the decrease of the value added in mining and quarrying and real estate activities, the statistical office said.

However, manufacturing and exports improved during the period, the report said.
