Turkey Current Account Gap Widens In March

Turkey's current account deficit widened in March after narrowing in the previous month, data released by the central bank showed Monday.

The current account deficit increased to $5.396 billion from February's $4.935 billion. A year ago, the deficit was $6.264 billion.

The merchandise trade balance showed a deficit of $5.737 billion, which was slightly larger than February's $5.477 billion. Overall trade balance revealed a shortfall of $4.474 billion compared to $4.659 billion in the previous month.

Current transfers totaled $24 million, which was much less than the $172 million in February. The capital account remained balanced in March, as in February.
