Consumer prices in Sweden decreased more than forecast by economists in April, data from Statistics Sweden showed Tuesday.
The consumer price index fell 0.5 percent year-on-year in April after posting no change in March. Economists had forecast a 0.2 percent fall. Prices have declined in four of the past six months.
Month-on-month, CPI decreased 0.2 percent against expectation for a 0.1 percent increase. This primarily reflected price decreases in fuel, package holidays, clothing, electricity, transport services as well as furnishings and household equipment.
The core inflation rate was 0.5 percent in April, below 0.8 percent in March. On a monthly basis, the core measure decreased 0.2 percent against forecast of 0.1 percent rise.
The harmonized index of consumer prices remained flat over last year and decreased 0.2 percent from March.
