French Current Account Deficit Narrows In March

France's current account shortfall decreased from the previous month in March, helped by a marked improvement in merchandise trade, data released by the Bank of France showed Tuesday.

The current account deficit, on a seasonally and working-day adjusted basis, declined to EUR2.9 billion in March from EUR5 billion in February.

The goods trade account showed a shortfall of EUR4.6 billion, lower than the EUR6 billion deficit seen a month earlier. The services account, meanwhile, recorded a surplus of EUR2.9 billion, which was higher than February's EUR2.2 billion.

The surplus in the income account stayed unchanged month-on-month at EUR2 billion in March. The balance of the current transfers account was a deficit of EUR3.1 billion, unchanged from February.
