Lithuania's unemployment rate increased modestly in the first quarter, data released by the Department of Statistics showed Friday.
The unemployment rate edged up to 13.1 percent in the first quarter from 13 percent in the fourth quarter. The latest figure was, however, notably lower than 7.3 percent recorded in the first quarter of 2012.
Long-term unemployment, which refers to persons unemployed for one year or more, was 5.9 percent during the quarter, a tad lower than the previous quarter's figure of 6 percent. The unemployment rate among youth, aged between 15 and 24, was 22.7 percent, down from 25.4 percent seen in the final three months of last year.
The number of jobless persons in the country increased modestly by 0.6 percent sequentially to around 191,200 during the three months ended March.
