Inflation as per the manufacturing producer price index increased 5.48 percent year-on-year in April, following the previous month's 6.65 percent growth.

The annual growth in prices was driven by a 5.82 percent rise in food prices, and an 8.35 percent increase in the petroleum refining and alcohol production industry. There was a 9.11 percent gain in costs of other chemicals and a 4.39 percent rise in prices of machinery and equipment.

On a monthly basis, factory gate prices moved up 0.35 percent in April, faster than the 0.04 percent gain seen in March and February, data showed.
