France April Producer Prices Rise Less Than Expected

Producer prices in the French industry rose slower-than-expected in April, data released by INSEE showed Friday.

Domestic producer price index rose 0.6 percent annually, much slower than economists' expectations for a 1.6 percent increase.

Month-on-month, prices declined 0.9 percent, which was worse than the 0.3 percent fall predicted by economists. The PPI was unchanged in March.

Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning prices dropped 3.0 percent, following three months of rise, while prices for refined petroleum products continued to fall at a steep rate, the statistical office noted.

Prices for the overall market rose 0.6 percent year-on-year, but fell 0.7 percent from March.

Import prices decreased 2.6 percent from year-ago and 1.1 percent from the previous month. In March, the monthly decline in import prices was 0.4 percent.
