Finland Trade Deficit Narrows Sharply In April

Finland's merchandise trade shortfall decreased significantly in April, helped mainly by strong growth in shipments to the other euro zone countries, data released by the Customs Office showed Friday.

The trade shortfall fell sharply to EUR 35 million in April from EUR 250 million in March. In April 2012, the balance was a deficit of EUR 160 million.

Export of goods increased 2 percent on an annual basis to EUR 4.84 billion in April. Shipments to Eurozone countries climbed 10 percent from a year earlier, and dispatches to countries outside the euro area advanced 6 percent.

The value of imports, meanwhile, remained broadly unchanged year-on-year at EUR 4.87 billion. Arrivals from the Eurozone rose 6 percent, while those from the rest of the world dropped 8 percent, data showed.
