US Soldier Killed In Grenade Attack In Afghanistan

An American soldier from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) died in a rocket attack in South East Afghanistan on Tuesday.

The US Department of Defense identified today the soldier as Sgt. Sonny C. Zimmerman, 25, of Waynesfield, Ohio. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, Fort Campbell, Ky.

He died in Mushaka, in Ghazni province, of "wounds suffered when his vehicle was attacked by a rocket propelled grenade," a DOD press release said on Wednesday.

It did not specify if it was a terrorist attack.

He is the 75th US soldier killed in combat operations in Afghanistan this year, according to ICasualties.org, an independent website that monitors international troop casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It takes the total number of ISAF casualties in Afghanistan in 2013 to 100.

Although NATO is committed to end its combat mission in 2014, ISAF troops continue to face terrorist attacks in various parts of the war-torn country although in a lesser scale.
