Greece June Current Account Surplus Increases

The Greece current account surplus increased sharply in June largely due to a surge in surplus on services, data from the Bank of Greece showed Monday.

The current account surplus rose to EUR 663.1 million in June from EUR 35.5 million in May, it said.

Among the components of current account, the visible trade deficit decreased marginally to EUR 1.08 billion from EUR 1.12 billion in the previous month.

By contrast, the surplus on trade in services climbed to EUR 2 billion from EUR 1.4 billion. In addition, current transfers increased to EUR 264.7 million from EUR 69.4 million in May.

The shortfall in income widened to EUR 524.5 million from EUR 314.8 million a month ago.
