Israel has stopped auctioning of stolen Egyptian artefacts at two Jerusalem auction centers following a request from the Egyptian authorities.
Egypt's Foreign Affairs Ministry has received a communication from its Israeli counterpart saying that auctioning at Jerusalem's Eweda and Bidoon auction halls, where 126 ancient Egyptian artefacts were on sale, was stopped, state-run Al-Ahram daily reported on Thursday quoting the Ministry of State of Antiquities (MSA).
Ali Ahmed, Director-General of the Repatriation of Antiquities Department in the MSA, said the priceless antiques were traced through a routine web review of all international auction halls carried out by the department periodically.
The stolen objects include a collection of ancient Egyptian clay vessels, vases, figurines and stelae.
