A young girl and two others were killed when gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on a wedding party outside a Coptic Christian church in Cairo late on Sunday.
At least nine others were also injured in the attack in the Al-Warraq suburb of the Egyptian capital, state-run Al-Ahram newspaper reported. It quoted a spokesman of the Interior Ministry as saying that a 13-year-old girl, a woman and a man died in the attack. The woman was the groom's mother.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Egypt's Coptic Christian community has been targeted by some Islamists who accuse the Church of backing the military's overthrow of elected President Mohamed Morsi in July.
Coptic priest Thomas Daoud Ibrahim said he was inside the church when the unidentified gunmen opened fire into the wedding ceremony. They fled the scene after the attack.
Christians complained that the church had no police guards despite continued attacks on Christian places of worship since the ouster of Morsi. Christians constitute ten percent of the Egyptian population with more than eight million believers.
