The total value of construction work done in Australia climbed a seasonally adjusted 2.7 percent in the third quarter of 2013 compared to the previous three months, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday - standing at A$53.426 billion.
The headline figure topped forecasts for an increase of 0.5 percent following the upwardly revised 0.1 percent gain in the second quarter (originally -0.3 percent).
On a yearly basis, the total value of construction was up 1.3 percent.
The seasonally adjusted estimate of total building work completed in Q3 climbed 1.5 percent on quarter to A$20.959 billion.
On year, the value of building construction climbed 4.6 percent.
Engineering construction work done gained a seasonally adjusted 3.5 percent on quarter to A$32.467 billion.
On year, the value of engineering construction dipped 0.7 percent.
The value of residential construction was roughly flat on quarter at A$12.160 billion; it was up 2.7 percent on year.
Non-residential construction added a seasonally adjusted 3.7 percent on quarter to A$8.799 billion; on year, it spiked 7.3 percent.
