AT&T (T) announced Tuesday that it has agreed to acquire 49 Advanced Wireless Services or AWS spectrum licenses from Aloha Partners II, L.P. The licenses cover nearly 50 million people in 14 states — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approval. AT&T anticipates closing the transaction in the second half of 2014. Financial terms were not disclosed.
According to the company, the acquisition complements AT&T's existing AWS holdings. AT&T is adding spectrum in the AWS and other bands to stay ahead of soaring demand for mobile Internet services. This spectrum will help AT&T continue to provide a great mobile Internet experience for its customers.
