Army Helicopter Hard Landing Kills 1 U.S. Soldier

A "hard landing" made by a Black Hawk helicopter on Wednesday night has left one U.S. soldier dead and two others wounded after it landed during a training flight near Savannah, Georgia.

Local television station WREX reports that the incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. during a routine training flight at the Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah, Georgia and involved soldiers with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.

The names of the soldiers on board have not yet been made public. The two surviving soldiers were taken to an area hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.

The U.S. Army is investigating the incident.

This is the second helicopter accident to occur recently involving armed forces. Last week, on January 8, a Navy helicopter crashed in Virginia Beach, sending two people to the hospital and killing three others.
