House prices in Australia climbed 3.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2013 compared to the previous three months, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday.
That beat forecasts for an increase of 3.0 percent following the upwardly revised gain of 2.4 percent in the third quarter (originally 1.9 percent).
On a yearly basis, house prices jumped 9.3 percent - also topping expectations for a gain of 8.6 percent following the upwardly revised 8.0 percent increase in the previous three months (originally 7.6 percent).
The total value of residential dwellings in Australia was A$5,017,041.4 million at the end of December quarter, rising A$184,304.7 million over the quarter.
