Japan Leading Index Falls More Than Expected

Japan's leading index fell more-than-expected in March and reached a 12-month low, preliminary figures from the Cabinet Office showed Friday.

The leading index fell to 106.5 in March from 108.7 In February, below economists' forecast of 106.7. This was the lowest score since March 2013. The index eased for the second straight month.

At the same time, the coincident index that measures the current economic situation improved to 114.0 in March from 112.9 in February. In January, the score was 114.8.

Meanwhile, the lagging index, which indicates the past performance of the Japanese economy, dropped to 116.8 in March from 117.0 in February.
