Slovakia Consumer Prices Unchanged In May

Slovakia consumer prices remained flat in May after declining for three consecutive months, figures from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic showed Thursday.

Consumer prices remained stagnant in May compared with a 0.2 percent year-over-year decline in April.

On a month-over-month basis, consumer prices rose 0.2 percent after remaining unchanged for two months.

Core consumer prices rose 0.3 percent month-over-month in May following a flat reading in April. On a year-over-year basis, core prices rose 0.2 percent in May after remaining unchanged in April.

Annually, education costs rose 4.7 percent. This was followed by a 2.2 percent rise in alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices, a 1.3 percent rise in prices at hotels, cafés and restaurants and a 1.1 percent rise in prices of clothing and footwear.

Meanwhile, food prices, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels prices, transport prices and postal and telecommunication services prices declined in May.
