Raytheon Co. (RTN), a technology company specializing in defense, security and civil markets, Wednesday said it has received a $235.5 million contract for Radar Digital Processor or RDP kits to upgrade the combat-proven Patriot Air and Missile Defense System for the US and two partner nations.
The full rate production contract for the US, awarded by the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., will deliver significant benefits to the warfighter, the company noted. The benefits include improved target detection and identification, enhanced surveillance, and support of PAC-3 MSE missile, and 40 percent gain in overall radar reliability due to increased Mean Time Between Failure. The company also noted that decrease in the number of battery replaceable units to 56 from 759 will substantially reduce spares and maintenance costs over the life of the system.
Work under this contract will be performed at Raytheon's Integrated Air Defense Center, Andover, Mass.
Patriot is the world's most modern and capable air and missile defense system. Raytheon is the prime contractor for both domestic and international Patriot Air and Missile Defense Systems and system integrator for Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missiles.
Separately, Raytheon announced the board members of the Raytheon Atheeb Systems Limited or RASL Joint Venture company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, alng with partner Pannesma Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia's Atheeb Group.
RASL Board Members are Kimberly Kerry, Louis Laroche, and Robert Shanks from Raytheon, Ted Millspaugh from Pannesma, and Imad Alabdulqader from Atheeb.
Raytheon owns 51 percent in the joint venture, while Pannesma owns 49 percent.
