Greece June Current Account Surplus Rises

Greece's current account surplus in June advanced from a year ago, led by the rise in surpluses of services and current transfers balances as well as an improvement in the income account, figures from the Bank of Greece showed Wednesday.

The current account surplus rose to EUR 1.4 billion in June from EUR 897.7 million in the same month last year.

Surplus in the services trade grew to EUR 2.51 billion in June from EUR 2.12 billion in the same month last year. Meanwhile, the goods trade deficit widened to EUR 1.3 billion in June from EUR 1.1 billion a year ago.

The deficit in the income account narrowed to EUR 326.3 million in June from EUR 476.8 million last year. The current transfers surplus advanced to EUR 474.6 million from EUR 336.4 million.

In the January to June period, the current account deficit of the country fell to EUR 1.12 billion from EUR 2.4 billion in the same period last year.
