Germany's EU measure of inflation unexpectedly slowed in October after holding steady in the previous two months, preliminary estimates from Destatis showed Thursday.
The harmonized index of consumer prices rose 0.7 percent annually following 0.8 percent increase in each of the previous three months. Economists had forecast a higher figure of 0.9 percent.
HICP inflation in October was the lowest since May, when it was 0.6 percent.
Month-on-month, the HICP declined 0.3 percent in October after remaining flat in September. The fall was worse than the 0.1 percent drop predicted by economists.
The overall consumer price index climbed 0.8 percent year-on-year for the fourth straight month in October. Economists had expected a modest acceleration in the figure to 0.9 percent.
On a monthly basis, prices fell 0.3 percent in October, after remaining flat in the previous month. Economists had forecast a 0.1 percent decline.
