The construction sector in Australia contracted at an accelerated pace in December, the latest survey from the Australian Industry Group showed on Friday, with an index score of 44.4.
That's down from 45.4 in November, and it moves further below the boom-or-bust line of 50 that separates expansion from contraction.
Among the individual components of the survey, apartment building, house building, commercial construction and engineering all contracted in December.
Survey respondents mainly attributed the decline in conditions to a smaller pipeline of new business, a lack of public sector tenders and project delays, AiG said.
