Singapore Dec CPI Falls More Than Expected

Singapore's consumer prices declined more than expected in December, though at a slower rate than in the previous month, data from Statistics Singapore showed Friday.

Consumer prices fell 0.2 percent year-on-year in December following the 0.3 percent fall in November. Economists had expected prices to drop 0.1 percent.

This marked the second consecutive month of decline in prices.

Heavily weighed housing prices dropped 1.4 percent. Transport prices feel the most, by 4.1 percent in December.

Meanwhile, food prices rose 2.9 percent annually.

Core consumer prices which excludes the cost of accommodation and private road transport, climbed 1.5 percent year-on-year in December.

On a month-over-month basis, consumer prices slid 0.2 percent in December, the same rate as in November.
