Snapchat Unveils New Discover Feature

Snapchat Inc., the ephemeral messaging service provider, Tuesday unveiled Discover, a new feature in the app that will showcase news articles, music and videos provided by media partners, like CNN, Comedy Central, Cosmopolitan, ESPN, and Warner Music.

According to the blog post, Snapchat users will be able to explore news articles and videos compiled by artists, publishers and Snapchat editorial teams.

Snapchat users can tap to open an "edition," swipe left to browse the "Snaps," or swipe up on a "Snap" for more. These stories will feature "full screen photos and videos, awesome long form layouts, and gorgeous advertising," the blog says.

"Social media companies tell us what to read based on what's most recent or most popular. We see it differently. We count on editors and artists, not clicks and shares, to determine what's important," the blog said.

Snapchat has been a huge success with more than 100 million monthly users. The company, which had rejected a $3 billion takeover offer from Facebook in 2013, is currently valued at about $10 billion.

However, the company has not been able to justify its valuation with revenues. According to reports, Snapchat Discover will also run full-screen video ads, which will help the company boost revenues.
